The biggest and busiest of Canada's airports, Toronto Pearson sees more than 50 million passengers travel through its doors each year.
The airport is situated 25 kilometres to the west of downtown Toronto, in Mississauga, just a 20-minute drive away.
Toronto Pearson was opened in 1937 and originally intended as an alternative to Toronto Island Airport - now called Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport.
While it's usually referred to as Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ), it's official title is Lester B. Pearson International Airport, named after Canada's 14th Prime Minister. Lester Pearson also won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1957, having helped resolve the Suez Canal crisis by organising the United Nations Emergency Force.
Pearson International, a hub for Air Canada, WestJet and FedEx Express, boasts twoterminals (Terminal 1 and Terminal 3) and five runways, helping it facilitate in excess of 455,000 aircraft movements per year - over 100,000 more than Canada's second-biggest airport, Vancouver International.
